Fraud Protection Integration and International Ordering Capability

Good American is a fashion brand which has built inclusivity into its ethos. The brand offers an array of apparel products including denim designs carrying sizes 00 through to 24. Good American aims for a figure-flattering shape with just the right amount of stretch and lift.

In 2016, Good American approached local Los Angeles development company Sunrise Integration to provide technology development work for international order support and fraud protection services. Sunrise Integration's ecommerce experience, Shopify expertise and partnership with Pitney Bowes' Borderfree service made this project a great fit.

The Challenge

As the popularity of Good American soared, so did the volume of fraudulent orders. The brand needed a solution to provide fraud detection services for their online store. Good American was looking for an API integration with their existing fraud service provided by Signifyd. The brand needed a way for Signifyd to work with their existing Shopify store to prevent fraud orders.

In addition to fraud services, Good American was looking for a viable international delivery service and decided upon Pitney Bowes' Borderfree platform. Sunrise Integration was already a development partner for Pitney Bowes so a custom integration with Borderfree was added to the development project outline.

The Solution

The Sunrise Integration API development team jumped into action and created two solutions for Good American. The first project was to create a custom integration with the Signifyd API to manage the orders. Signifyd provides fraud detection services, feedback and recommendations based on industry best practices. The synchronization with Signifyd was critical to ensure all Shopify orders are properly reviewed and rated.

Signifyd

Sunrise Integration developed an API integration that passes the Shopify order details to Signifyd to check for fraud. Once the data is passed to Signifyd, the platform processes the information and returns a result as to the disposition of an order. If the result is approved, then the custom integration will allow to be processed. A failed order will immediately be cancelled and the Good American team is notified. The process happens automatically behind the scenes using the Signifyd API.

Borderfree

The second integration that Good American requested was support for the Borderfree international shipping platform. Borderfree is a global shipping service with expertise in customs and international delivery operating in over 220 countries and territories around the world. Sunrise Integration is a longtime development partner with Pitney Bowes so the Borderfree integration was able to make use of the Global OMS (GOMS) Shopify App developed by Sunrise Integration. The GOMS application pulls successful orders from the Borderfree system and synchronizes the data with Shopify. The order and tracking details are exchanged to ensure both platforms are up-to-date.

The Sunrise Integration web development team provided additional integration support for the Borderfree project by customizing the Shopify theme to add the currency and localization information. When a customer lands on the homepage, the system can automatically detect their location or provide a pop-up modal allowing one to select their location and preferred currency. The site will then automatically display all products and pricing in the selected currency.

The Outcome

After completing the integration projects, Good American was ready to launch with new fraud services from Signifyd and international shipping from Borderfree. The Signifyd service was immediately able to cut down on financial losses by providing Good American with expert feedback and order recommendations.

Good American was also able to expand their brand reach by expanding into international shipments using Borderfree. Now the site can take orders from a wide array of countries and currencies all from their existing Shopify site.
