Shopify POS Goes Up To 11

Shopify POS version 11.0 is here and it's the latest update for 2026. Let's review what's new!

Shopify POS 11.0 Focuses on Efficiency

Shopify just released their latest major upgrade for Shopify POS with version 11.0. This new update comes with a lot of efficiency updates focused on addressing and helping keep your team focused. As we reviewed the new workflows, it’s clear that Shopify is removing a lot of the modals and making the cart accessible. Checkout also has bigger buttons and is less prone to stray clicks. Those are probably the most obvious changes you’ll see in v11.0. Let’s take a closer look at what’s new in Shopify POS 11.0 and our first impression of how these changes can help your store. Whether you're already on Shopify POS or looking to migrate to Shopify POS, this new version is great upgrade.

Updated cart

One of the biggest changes you’ll notice in Shopify POS 11.0 is the new cart layout and interaction. The cart now persists during workflows like adding discounts and customers. The old version, all of those interactions would pop-open a modal and obscure the cart. In the new POS version 11, this extra modal is gone. This reduces the number of taps required to accomplish tasks. You will now input data on the side panel (see below) and keep moving without having to click-and-close a modal. We’re fans of this change. It feels like you can input customer data and discounts with less clicks.

Cart actions have now been moved directly into the cart and don’t open in a new modal. You will see a mini pop-up within the cart to handle all product changes. Making quantity changes or adding discounts are handled from this in-cart action. This is probably the most obvious change you will encounter in your day-to-day workflow as this directly affects how you interact with the products in the cart. This change does help remove a few extra clicks from item manipulation. You can quickly jump between line items with the in-cart pop-up. This makes things quicker overall so we can’t complain too much, but if you have a long cart, things now start to feel a bit crowded.

One useful cart change is the support for multi-select in the cart. You can now edit or modify multiple items at once instead of changing each one individually. Tapping on any item in the cart brings up checkboxes next to each item. This makes it faster to apply discounts or updates to multiple items with a single interaction. We liked how this helped cut down on repetitive work. Selecting multiple items to update or delete is super nice. It’s probably most helpful for those indecisive customers who want you to quickly remove things from the cart (so they can price compare.)

Side panels

As we mentioned, with the extra modals removed from the cart interactions, the merchant input needed to move somewhere. Key actions like adding a customer or assigning staff attribution now open in a dedicated left-side panel instead of a modal window. This keeps the cart persistent and visible during all interactions. This is a nice change and it’s nice to always see the cart during interactions with the POS.

This is a good change because pop-ups can easily interrupt the flow of the sale. They can make your staff lose their place on the POS screen and make the checkout process feel broken up. With the new side panel, the cart stays visible and helps your team stay focused on their key actions. One place where this can really help is customer data collection. This is probably one of the most common things retailers need to do and now it’s tucked into a nice side panel.

Inline customer creation

Since we’re talking about customer creation, it is always frustrating to enter a crazy long email (provided by your customer) when you’re trying to search for their account and then you have to enter it again when it turns out they are not in your system. Well, version 11 has fixed this process with a simple inline fix. If no results are found (when you search for a customer), your staff can create a new customer inline, with fields prefilled based on what was just searched. The POS will remember what you just typed and place it in the correct fields during the creation process. It’s a super simple change but it makes it faster to add new customers.

Checkout changes

The persistent cart paradigm goes all the way through to the new checkout layout. Shopify POS version 11.0 keeps the cart visible through the whole checkout flow. You can see the full details while selecting the payment, processing the sale and into the post-purchase page. This added visibility helps the transaction feel more connected and gives your staff full visibility. Shopify accomplishes this by using those new side panels again.

Bigger keypad entry on Shopify POS 11.0 checkout screen

The core checkout buttons are now moved to the left-side panel with larger buttons. The payment selection and number (currency) entry pad is larger and less prone to mistakes. If someone is paying cash, it’s nice to have the bigger number buttons. It was always a bit crowded before and this will help prevent any mistyping as you have a nice big entry.

The new side-panel layout also helps clean up the receipt selection and post-purchase actions. Everything stays in that side panel so you can keep your eyes in one place.
