The Shopify POS Takes Over Los Angeles - Live Event Wrap Up!
Shopify POS is Taking Over
February 19th, 2026 - The Shopify POS Los Angeles Takeover came to West Hollywood and was met with a smashing success. The in-person event was focused on bringing Los Angeles area retailers together to network and discuss Shopify POS. The night was sponsored by Sunrise Integration and Shopify and hosted at the elegant V Wine Room.
The evening was focused on Shopify’s exciting new point-of-sale software updates and new hardware. Attendees were greeted with excellent wine, snacks and primo pizza options courtesy of Sunrise Integration. The good food and wine was coupled with live demos of the new Shopify POS 11.0 and the top secret (not anymore) POS Hub. It was great to meet so many local L.A. retailers and discuss options for migrating their stores to a unified Shopify retail solution. The night was also an opportunity for merchants to chat with Shopify directly as Sunrise Integration was joined with Jes and Leslie from the local Shopify retail and sales team.
The star of the evening was Shopify’s new POS Hub. This long awaited new hardware hub is the center of an all new “wired” enterprise retail solution. Merchants were lining up to see how this new hardware hub connects their POS peripherals into a reliable store solution.
Let’s dive deeper into the event and learn about the new Shopify POS options available to everyone.
What’s New with Shopify POS
The greater Los Angeles area is home to a staggering number of retail stores and each merchant has their own unique needs (and problems) with their POS. The Shopify LA Takeover event was designed specifically to connect with merchants and review real time options for their retail stores. There were multiple demo-stations set up to show the new software and hardware. We were excited to demonstrate the two biggest changes including Shopify POS 11.0 and the new Shopify POS Hub.
Shopify POS 11.0 updates the core app with improvements to the user interface, cart interactions, customer matching, and a new checkout layout. It’s now easier to complete cart-tasks with fewer taps and less pop-up switching around the app. For example, adding a custom discount to a cart item no longer opens a full-screen modal. There is now a smaller window within the cart that localizes the actions and keeps the screen available. This interaction was a big hit with merchants as we demonstrated the new UI. Users liked the compact controls and quick access.
The hardware side presented a bigger buzz with the all new hub. The Shopify POS Hub is a big step toward a more stable counter setup. Instead of relying on Bluetooth or wi-fi, the Hub connects your card reader, printers and peripherals through a single, wired USB cable. This keeps everything in sync and reduces connection headaches. The hub also opens up more hardware options by supporting a wider range of peripherals like USB scanners and printers. We had a Shopify POS Hub prominently displayed on the main demo station. The connection included a Shopify Terminal, Epson printer, scanner and iPad. It was a marvel to show merchants how quickly hardware was connected and automatically detected by the Hub. It’s a small unit but don’t let that belie the power it brings to your configuration. The Sunrise Integration POS team is now recommending the hub for all merchants looking to migrate to Shopify POS. It’s that useful!
Listening to LA Retailers
The Shopify POS Takeover event was also an opportunity for local merchants to network with one another. We were able to facilitate introductions and hear about the issues faced with doing business in the area. A few common topics dominated the night including tariffs, shifting customer behaviors and business costs. Merchants inquired how Shopify POS could help with these issues.
Since tariffs are pushing product costs up, merchants aren't able to absorb that extra expense. Many store owners were asking about alternative sourcing to protect their margins. Shopify POS supports this shift with dropshipping apps, which reduce the burden of buying inventory up front. We explained how stores can use the Shopify POS to take shipping orders right from the store and extend their catalog using these dropship items.
The next topic on the merchant's mind was shifting customer shopping habits. Modern customers want ease and flexibility like BOPIS (buy online pickup in store) and subscriptions. Most attendees wanted to see how Shopify POS supported these workflows. The Sunrise Integration retail team performed multiple demos showing the native pickup and delivery options in Shopify POS. This is one of the many benefits of a unified platform. The subscriptions tile was also a popular feature as merchants can now envision collecting recurring revenue. Configuring subscriptions right from the checkout counter is a huge boon to any merchant’s bottom line.
Business costs and expenses are always a concern, and the POS Hub helps by reducing the “hidden” cost of downtime. It also opens up a world of more cost-effective peripherals because it works with a wider range of hardware, including commonly available USB barcode scanners (including any HID-mode scanner) and supported receipt printers, so you’re not boxed into a narrow list of expensive, specialized options when you need to replace or expand equipment. It was exciting to show merchants the new hardware and how it works with the POS.
